Meet Your Instructors

Mohammad M. Ajallooeian, MSc

Mohammad is a Machine Learning Educator and Scientist at the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii). Mohammad is very passionate about artificial Intelligence and machine Learning, philosophy and education. He has been doing research and teaching AI and ML for the past 12 years. Mohammad received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, completed his Master of Science in Computer Engineering from the University of Tehran, became an Amii student and completed another MSc in Computer Science in the Computing Science Department of the University of Alberta and currently pursues a PhD in Computing Science at the University of Alberta, specializing in Statistical Machine Learning. He has done research in reinforcement learning, cognitive science, game theory and Monte Carlo tree search which is a fusion point of ML and classic AI.

Blanca Miller, MSc

Blanca Miller is a Machine Learning Scientist and Educator at the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii). She has a master's in computer science with a research emphasis in reinforcement learning. Her master's research involved investigations of high-accuracy optimal control for autonomous driving. Before being a computer scientist she was a high school math teacher and as such is passionate about accessibly communicating concepts relevant to applications of machine learning for real-world problems.

Omid Namaki, PhD

Omid is a Machine Learning Educator and Scientist at the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii), where he is helping to develop curriculum as a Subject Matter Expert (SME). He is also a Research Associate at Amii working with Dr. Csaba Szepesvári and Dr. Martha White on the application of reinforcement learning to water treatment. He received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering (Control Systems) in 2011 from K.N. Toosi University of Technology (Tehran, Iran) and has experience as a process control engineer. Omid is passionate about teaching, learning, and applying machine learning to real-world engineering problems.

    • This course has been created to upskill or reskill anyone with basic technical skill sets.   4. Is this course self-directed or on-demand online learning?
    • This course is delivered online and requires participants to attend sessions in real-time with the facilitators to make the most of our applied focus and hands-on approach. Participants from around the world are encouraged to apply.

  5. Is financial assistance available?
    • Yes, financial assistance is available through a competitive application process focused on serving Canadian newcomers (immigrants and refugees) and those experiencing job loss or underemployment due to COVID-19. In addition, the ML Technician Certification is eligible for a maximum ⅔ reimbursement through the Canadian Job Grant.

  6. What are the payment options?
    • Successful applications can request a three-part payment plan, with the first payment required upon registration and the entire course paid-in-full before classes begin on September 15, 2020.
