The AI Seminar is a weekly meeting at the University of Alberta where researchers interested in artificial intelligence (AI) can share their research. Presenters include both local speakers from the University of Alberta and visitors from other institutions. Topics can be related in any way to artificial intelligence, from foundational theoretical work to innovative applications of AI techniques to new fields and problems.
On May 21, Amii's Alaa Eddin Alchalabi, Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Ottawa, presented “Fair Server Selection in Edge Computing with Q-Value-Normalized Action-Suppressed Quadruple Q-Learning" at the AI Seminar.
This talk introduces the problem of fair server selection as complying with an application’s latency threshold, while reducing the variance of the latency among users in the same session. Due to the dynamic and rapidly evolving nature of such an environment and the capacity limitation of the servers, they propose as solution a Reinforcement Learning (RL) method that minimizes the variance of the latency.
