On October 21, 2020, members of the AI and health communities came together for an exciting conversation on Learning Health Systems, systems in which “science, informatics, incentives, and culture are aligned for continuous improvement and innovation, with best practices seamlessly embedded in the delivery process and new knowledge captured as an integral by‐product of the delivery experience” (Institute of Medicine, 2015).
The event featured Tim Murphy (Vice President of Health at Alberta Innovates), moderating a panel discussion between:
Participants discussed the definition, layers and benefits of Learning Health Systems; precision health and medicine; how AHS’ Strategic Clinical Networks fit into the picture; and what an AI-enabled healthcare system could look like in Alberta.

Google.org announces new research grants to support critical AI research in Canada focused on areas such as sustainability and the responsible development of AI. The grant will provide a total of $2.7 million in grant funding to Amii, the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR) and the International Center of Expertise of Montreal on AI (CEIMIA).
